Bob Coble to discuss Mayoral Do’s and Don’ts at Economic Development luncheon

Columbia, SC – Former Columbia mayor, Bob Coble, will deliver a keynote address entitled Reflections of a Past Mayor – Do’s and Don’ts of Economic Development during the luncheon portion of the 5th Annual Grow Your City Mayors’ Economic Development Symposium. The event, hosted by North Columbia Business Association, will take place on October 23, 2015 from 8am to 3pm, at the David H. Swinton Center on the Benedict College Campus. The luncheon begins at 11:30 am.
Coble, who served as Columbia’s mayor from 1990 to 2010, has long been committed to economic development. He will share the lessons he learned over his tenure in an address to an expected audience of 200 mayors, economic development professionals, business leaders and engaged citizens.
“When you serve as long as I have,” Coble says, “hopefully you will experience great successes. There are also some things that you may choose to never do again. And others, it simply may be bad timing. Now that I am in the private sector, I’ve had time to reflect on those things. It is my pleasure and duty to share that with other South Carolina mayors.”
Coble, who is currently employed by Nexsen Pruet, has played an integral role in the establishment of the annual luncheon. Executive Director, Sabrina Odom says, “We are so excited to have Bob Coble as our keynote speaker. Five years ago, we invited him to lunch to discuss his vision for the North Columbia area. About 50 people attended that event. At this year’s meeting, he will stand before a couple hundred people from around the state to share the insights he has gained from his 20 years of mayoral and economic development experience. This is truly a full-circle moment for us.”
The Grow Your City Mayors’ Economic Development Symposium is a full-day event geared towards anyone who has an interest in helping his/her city grow through economic development. Mayors, city officials, business leaders, economic development professionals and engaged citizens from across South Carolina are invited to attend.
