Bob Jones Academy Middle School to collect food, supplies for Miracle Hill Children's Home
November 7, 2011GREENVILLE, SC – November 7, 2011 – Beginning Monday, Nov. 7 through Friday, Nov. 11, 149 seventh and eighth graders will collect food, cleaning supplies and paper products to donate to Miracle Children’s Home.
BJA has conducted the collection since 1988 and amassed a total of 377,000 pounds of product for the children’s home. Students collect items in seven different categories: canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats and sauces, condiments, dry goods, cleaners/toiletries, paper/plastic products, and beverages.
“Each of the Middle School classrooms compete against the others for the privilege of visiting the children’s home to deliver the supplies,” says Todd Kappel, Assistant Principal. “They know, however, that the ultimate prize is the satisfaction of caring for the needs of others.”
The collection is significant to Miracle Hill as it equates to about six months of its yearly need for supplies. “Without these donations we would never be able to buy them without great expense,” said Steve Lambright of Miracle Hill Ministries. “We would spend thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars to supply this need.”
Friday, November 11 will be the “big day” when the Middle Schoolers bring in what they’ve collected. At 7:30 a.m., a flurry of cars will begin lining up at the middle school to be unloaded, students will be there to unpack the goods, sort, weigh and load them into the back of a Semi-trailer to be delivered to Miracle Hill at a later date.
Bob Jones Academy Middle School is located on the campus of BJU.
