Bon Secours launches Internal Medicine Residency Program, clinic

July 17, 2025

Bon Secours announced the launch of its new Internal Medicine Residency Program at the St. Francis Downtown campus, marking a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare landscape. This initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of compassionate, highly skilled physicians dedicated to serving the growing and aging population of Upstate South Carolina.

The three-year, ACGME-accredited program is welcoming its inaugural class of 12 residents this month. Designed with a focus on resident well-being, intentional education, and personal mentoring, the program emphasizes a supportive learning environment that fosters both professional and personal growth.

“Amid the growing shortage of physicians, we must produce more doctors in the Upstate,” said Dr. Surabhi Gaur, Designated Institutional Official for Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. “Our GME program will provide teaching, promote research knowledge, shape attitudes, and provide skills critical to becoming future leaders in medicine who are worthy of our community’s trust.”

In tandem with the residency program, Bon Secours is also opening a new clinic: Bon Secours St. Francis Internal Medicine Residency Practice, located at 317 St. Francis Dr., Suite 210, Greenville, SC 29601. The clinic will serve as a key training site for residents and a vital access point for community members seeking high-quality primary care. The clinic officially opened on July 14, 2025.

The establishment of this residency program is part of a broader $2 million fundraising campaign led by the Bon Secours St. Francis Foundation. To date, $1.5 million have been raised, supporting the development of state-of-the-art facilities, scholarships, and the recruitment of top-tier faculty. These investments are crucial in creating an environment conducive to advanced medical training and patient care.

Located in the heart of Greenville, the program offers residents a unique blend of urban and community-based medical experiences. The curriculum is structured to provide comprehensive training in internal medicine, preparing residents to meet the diverse healthcare needs of the community.

Applications for the Internal Medicine Residency Program are now open. Prospective candidates can find more information and application details at bonsecours.com.
