Bon Secours announced a major milestone in surgical care: the successful completion of South Carolina’s first BiPortal Endoscopic Spine surgeries. This ultra minimally invasive technique represents a major step forward in treating spinal conditions with less pain, faster recovery, and smaller incisions.
Performed by the skilled surgical team at Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown Hospital, these groundbreaking procedures offer a new option for patients suffering from spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and other degenerative spine issues.
BiPortal Endoscopic Spine Surgery involves making two incisions, smaller than an average ink pen. These entry points – one for a high-definition camera and one for surgical instruments – allow surgeons to access and treat the spine with minimal disruption to surrounding tissue. Compared to traditional open surgery, this technique results in reduced muscle damage, less blood loss, and a faster return to normal activities.
