Bon Secours St. Francis Health System Earns FACT Reaccreditation for Blood and Marrow Transplant Program
June 30, 2014GREENVILLE, SC – By maintaining full compliance with rigorous, international standards set by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System has received reaccreditation for cellular therapy collection, processing and adult autologous transplantation. The inpatient BMT Program at the Lewis P. Batson, Jr. Cancer Care Center at ST. FRANCIS downtown has been fully accredited by FACT since 2001.
“FACT accreditation is the premier recognition of excellence in the field of cellular therapy,” said Mark Nantz, CEO, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. “This accreditation is highly respected by physicians as an indicator of organizations with clinical best practices and by insurers for overall levels of high quality care. FACT reaccreditation means that patients can be confident that when they come to Bon Secours St. Francis they are in good hands.”
FACT is the only accrediting organization that addresses all quality aspects of cellular therapy treatments: clinical care, donor management, cell collection, processing, storage/banking, transportation, administration, selection and release.
A Leader in Cancer Care
Bon Secours St. Francis is a leader in cancer care. The Blood Marrow Transplant Unit at the Lewis P. Batson, Jr. Cancer Care Center at ST. FRANCIS downtown was the first in the Upstate. Digital mammography—for better detection of breast abnormalities—was first introduced to the Greenville area at ST. FRANCIS eastside. In 2011, the fully accredited Pearlie Harris Breast Health Center opened. Less than one year later, the Mobile Mammography Coach was launched to take high-tech screenings and education beyond the walls of the hospital, extending the same compassionate patient care to all women—with or without insurance—in Greenville, Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties.
In addition, Bon Secours St. Francis has the only cancer program in South Carolina designed to meet the special needs of adolescent and young adult cancer patients. Its research department oversees more than one hundred clinical trials that are open to patients both here and abroad. In collaboration with the Food & Drug Administration, it participates in the ‘Fast Track’ program giving patients quicker access to breakthrough treatments and therapies.
Specially trained caregivers in the STAR (Survivorship Training and Rehab) program, launched in 2011, help survivors prepare for lifeafter cancer through physical rehabilitation, nutrition counseling, emotional support, medication management, spiritual care and more. Each patient’s health is closely monitored, post-recovery, with regular screenings and check-ups.
This fall, the new, state-of-the-art Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center at Millennium will open, providing cancer patients throughout the Upstate all oncology outpatient services, rehabilitation, infusion, radiation therapies, patient education resources and more in one convenient location.
