Bon Secours St. Francis Health System Names Chief Medical Officer

GREENVILLE, SC – Saria Carter Saccocio, MD, FAAFP, MHA, has been appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Senior Vice President/Medical Affairs forBon Secours St. Francis Health System.

“The selection of Dr. Saccocio is the result of a diligent selection process that involved extensive participation of our medical staff in the decision-making process,” said Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Staff President Chris Smith, MD, a physician with Upstate Cardiology/Bon Secours Medical Group, who was involved in the search process. “Dr. Saccocio’s impressive experience in clinical leadership, administration and academics plus her background in family practice medicine has distinguished her as a strategic physician leader ready to make valuable contributions to Bon Secours St. Francis.”

Dr. Saccocio received her Doctor of Medicine, with honors for Special Achievement, from the University of Florida (Gainesville), and her Executive Master of Health Administration from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). She completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Miami (Florida).

“After an extensive, national search producing many well-qualified candidates, we remained extremely impressed with the combination of clinical, academic and leadership skills and experience Dr. Saccocio brings to this position,” said Mark Nantz, CEO, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. “As CMO, she will prove invaluable as Bon Secours St. Francis continues to expand its mission and presence in the community.”

Dr. Saccocio has served in numerous clinical leadership and faculty roles. She joins Bon Secours St. Francis after serving since 2010 as chief medical officer at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va., a 250-bed community hospital. Prior to that, Dr. Saccocio was associate director of the Floyd Family Medicine Residency Program in Rome, Ga.; medical director, Hospicecare of Southeast Florida (Ft. Lauderdale); and in private practice. She is a diplomate, American Board of Family Medicine.

Faculty appointments include associate professorships at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (Blacksburg, Va.) and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Pennsylvania), and clinical associate professorships at Mercer University (Augusta, Ga.), Nova Southeastern University (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Florida State University (Tallahassee). Dr. Saccocio is a dynamic speaker and is widely published.
