Boys & Girls Clubs Family Festival
March 23, 2009FAMILY FUN TO BE HAD AT BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF THE MIDLANDS FAMILY FESTIVAL 2009
COLUMBIA, SC – March 5, 2009 – Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands, which has 29 before and after school clubs in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties, will host a Family Festival on Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Colonial Life Arena for the community, club members and their families.
The festival, which will include entertainment, crafts, music and food for the whole family, will take the place of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands annual black-tie fundraising gala.
“In times like these, we think it’s important to remember what the Boys & Girls Club is all about,” said Carter Clark, chief professional officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands. “The Family Festival is a way for our families and our entire community to get together and ensure everyone can participate.”
In addition to the favorite fun, crafts and games Club members participate in each afternoon that will be set up around the entire Colonial Life Arena and a bounce house, BGCM’s Youth of the Year, Sarah Largeant, will be announced. Successful graduates of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are Don Butler, assistant principal at H.E. Corley Elementary School and Randy Scott, chief deputy sheriff with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Family Festival 2009, sponsored by Colonial Life, is most of all, affordable fun. A family of four can enjoy an afternoon of food and fun for just $20, and each additional person only pays $5. Door prizes will also be given, and a silent auction of sports memorabilia is sure to entice parents.
“Our mission is to provide a fun, caring, wholesome environment for children from all socioeconomic backgrounds in the Midlands,” said Clark. “The Family Festival is a day for us all to kick back, take over the Colonial Center and have some fun while members and families from every Club get together under one roof. But the Family Festival is for anyone – Club Member or not. We want the entire community there.”
