Brailey assumes PMS principal role

At its June 26, 2018 Board Meeting, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Kailanya S. Brailey to the position of principal at Pelion Middle School. She currently serves as dean of character and academic development at Meadow Glen Middle School, a role she assumed in 2013.
A graduate of Lexington District One’s Aspiring Principals Academy, Brailey endeavors to “facilitate a focus on character, relationships, student achievement and feedback in an effort to move students and staff instructional practices forward.”
Brailey began her career teaching English language arts to eighth-graders and 10th-graders at Bethune-Bowman Middle/High School in Orangeburg Consolidated School District #5. While there, she served as eighth-grade team leader and English department chair.
In 2008, she joined Chapin Middle School as a seventh-grade language arts, journalism and leadership teacher. While there, her co-workers chose her as the 2011 Teacher of the Year.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Winthrop University, a Master of Science in education with a specialization in curriculum, instruction and assessment from Walden University, and a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.
A National Board-certified teacher in English language arts early adolescence, Brailey is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Palmetto State Teachers Association and South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
