Brown joins Burnette Shutt & McDaniel as an attorney

A Palmetto State native and graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, Meredith Cooper Brown is the newest attorney at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel. Her practice will focus on employment, education, and family law.

A former teacher who holds a master’s degree in elementary inclusive education, Brown is a familiar face at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel. She began working at the firm as a law clerk while earning her juris doctor. She also served as an extern with the Hon. Michelle Hurley, assisting with administrative tasks and observing a variety of Family Court proceedings.

As a member of the law school’s mock bar, she was honored with the Glenn Family Mock Trial Competition Best Closing Argument Award. She was active in a number of organizations, including the Native American Law Student Association, The Honorable James Lockemy Chapter and the Black Law Student Association, The Honorable Matthew J. Perry Chapter.

Prior to law school, Brown taught in Atlanta and New York City in classrooms from second grade through high school.

She earned a bachelor’s in political science with secondary education certification from Spelman College in Atlanta and a master’s from Columbia University Teachers College.
