Building Industry Association names Corporate Member of the Year- and Commercial Contractor Member of the Year

The Board of Directors of the Building Industry Association of Central South Carolina (BIA) have announced that Free Times been named 2020 Corporate Member of the Year and J. C. Wilkie Construction, LLC has been chosen as the 2020 Commercial Contractor of the Year.

The Corporate Member of the Year award was created to recognize an outstanding member company of the association. This award takes into account a company’s contributions on the whole toward the betterment of the association, including financial support, use of company resources and representation of the association in an outstanding manner.

Under the leadership of Chase Heatherly, Publisher/Advertising Director, Free Times has forged marketing partnerships with the Building Industry Association including the publication of Columbia Homes and the Tour of Homes Plan Book and the Celebrity Chefs event at the Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show.

Free Times has been covering news, politics, arts and entertainment in Columbia, S.C., since 1987. The product was acquired in 2016 by The Post and Courier, South Carolina’s leading daily newspaper. Free Times, now co-branded with The Post and Courier Columbia edition, continues to be one of South Carolina’s largest and most popular weekly news product, with a circulation of more than 20,000 copies each week and an average weekly pickup rate of 92%. Together, the two brands employ 13 full-time journalists here in Columbia.

The Commercial Contractor of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding Commercial Contractor member company of the BIA of Central South Carolina. This award takes into account a company’s contributions on the whole toward the betterment of the association.

J.C. Wilkie Construction was established in October 2003. The company is an LLC registered with the State of South Carolina with an office in Lexington, South Carolina.

Their primary focus for the construction side of the business is site construction with extensive experience in clearing and grading as well as water and sewer and storm drain installation and roadway construction. In addition to the ability to handle all aspects of site construction they have a trucking division for hauling aggregate products. J. C. Wilkie Construction owns and operate three sand mines and also have a recycling operation.

Jason Wilkie is the president and owner of the company. Jason earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The University of South Carolina.

The BIA of Central South Carolina would like to commend Free Times. and J. C. Wilkie Construction, LLC on their hard work and dedication to the building industry throughout the year. They have not only served the building industry well, but the Columbia community and the entire state have benefited from their dedication and work.

At the annual BIA Holiday Ball on December 11, 2020 the association will announce the recipients of the Byron Crosthwaite Builder Member of the Year, Associate Member of the Year, Trade Contractor of the Year and the Richard N. Sendler Award.
