Buncombe Street United Methodist Church hires new staff

February 20, 2018

Buncombe Street United Methodist Church (BSUMC), recently hired two new staff, Rev. Kristin Dollar as Director of Missions and Outreach and Lorie Gibson as Director of the Child Development Center – Trinity Campus.

Rev. Dollar joins BSUMC as the Director of Mission and Outreach, a role she believes is the soul of the church. Dollar finds serving others through missions and outreach her calling after graduating from Furman University as an undergraduate, followed by Duke University Divinity School, and interning at Triune Mercy Center – a local ministry for those in vulnerable life situations. The staff and congregation of BSUMC support Triune Mercy Center on many levels, and it was through Triune that Dollar discovered the extensive mission outreach BSUMC provides the community, state, nation and world. “I’m proud to be a part of a ministry that has impacted thousands of lives in our local and larger communities.” she said, “I’m honored to serve alongside a congregation that follows God’s call and experiences the presence of the Living Christ along the way.”

Gibson was hired as Director of the Child Development Center – Trinity Campus. She previously served as the director of the preschool, afterschool and summer children’s programs at Memorial United Methodist Church in Greer. Gibson came from a family of educators and received an undergraduate degree in journalism and a master’s degree in education. She also understands how music plays a vital role in child development. “You can use music to learn in so many different ways,” Gibson says. “Busy, engaged children who are learning are happy children, and music can provide the needed engagement,” she believes. Gibson has two grown children.
