Callison Tighe makes $10,000 contribution to Harvest Hope

December 16, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – Callison Tighe has continued its commitment to feeding the Midlands with a $10,000 contribution to Harvest Hope Food Bank that will help numerous families during the holiday season.

The firm’s attorneys and staff also packed more than 100 boxes of nonperishable food that will be distributed to people in need.

The donation to Harvest Hope has become a tradition at Callison Tighe.

“For many years we have chosen to celebrate the holidays by helping those with the greatest needs,” Callison Tighe member Rick Detwiler said. “In 2009, we identified Harvest Hope as an organization which supports families in our community who are the most vulnerable, particularly children and senior citizens. Since then, we have donated $60,000 to this great organization and some 98 cents of each of those dollars have reached the hands of the most needy in the most basic form – food. In many cases, this is the only thing between them and being homeless.”

Harvest Hope distributed 28 million pounds of food to 2.2 million South Carolinians in 2013 – that’s almost 300,000 more people than the organization was able to reach the previous year. “Thanks to Harvest Hope, our neighbors won’t have to decide between feeding their children and paying the rent,” Detwiler said.

The food bank operates in 20 South Carolina counties, partnering with 476 local agencies to feed 38,000 people a week. Harvest Hope also serves as South Carolina’s primary emergency feeding organization, helping throughout the state in areas struck by natural or man-made disasters.
