Callison Tighe’s Pavlicek earns CIPP/US designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals

April 4, 2016

Callison Tighe attorney Jax Pavlicek has earned the CIPP/US designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Pavlicek earned the CIPP/US designation upon passing a comprehensive examination covering privacy and data protection laws and practices in the United States, including how to respond in the event of a data breach.

The CIPP/US designation is the preeminent professional designation offered in the information privacy sector. Chief privacy officers and information technology and security specialists often seek CIPP/US designations, but very few attorneys have earned the credential.

The IAPP, a non-profit organization founded in 2000, is the largest information privacy organization in the world. The IAPP strives to create systems for privacy professionals to share best practices and track trends.

In order to earn the designation, Pavlicek had to demonstrate knowledge of state and federal data-protection laws and marketing practice regulations, including HIPAA, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), and federal regulations addressing information sharing and marketing limitations. The CIPP/US exam also addressed employment-related privacy laws as well as best practices for background screening, employee testing, workplace monitoring, and employee investigation and discipline.

Pavlicek’s CIPP/US designation allows Callison Tighe to offer expanded privacy and data protection services to clients. She can serve the needs of individuals and organizations faced with privacy concerns and compliance issues. She can help organizations conduct privacy audits, evaluate cybersecurity concerns, evaluate an organization’s practices to help ensure personally identifiable information (PII) remains secure, advise clients on best practices, and assist clients in the event they become the victim of a data breach. Pavlicek also helps companies create hiring and termination policies that comply with data and privacy protection laws.

Pavlicek, whose practice at Callison Tighe focuses on litigation and appellate work, has also been selected to serve a two-year term as a Young Privacy Professional Leader in the IAPP’s Columbia-based KnowledgeNet chapter.
