Fees to be Used to Make improvements at Park
HOPKINS, SC – Congaree National Park will begin collecting nominal fees for camping at Longleaf and Bluff campgrounds within the park on October 15, 2015.  Fees to camp at Longleaf campground will be $10.00 per night for regular tent sites and $20.00 per night for group camp sites.  Bluff campsite fees will be $5.00 per night.  In addition to the collection of fees for camping, visitors will soon have the ability to reserve camp sites online.  The fees collected will be used to maintain and make improvements at park facilities.

The implementation of this new policy for the park comes as a result of a detailed process involving assessment of other camping options within the region and significant public input.

“In order to begin collecting fees we were required to go through a process which involved working with the public,” says Superintendent Tracy Stakely, “We actually received a lot of comments supporting the collection of fees for camping at the park.  These fees will provide opportunities to make improvements in the park and should enhance the visitor experience.”

The fees only apply to developed camping areas.  There is no charge for entrance to the park or for camping in the backcountry.
