Carolina Panthers and South Carolina Department of Education to Celebrate Eastside Elementary’s Academic Triumphs
March 5, 2024A very exciting event is set to unfold on March 7th at 11:00 am, and the Clinton High School Gym will be the location of the excitement as the Carolina Panthers join forces with the South Carolina Department of Education to celebrate the students of Eastside Elementary. This event is in honor of the National Read Across America Week and, more significantly, to applaud the remarkable achievements of Eastside Elementary students in the SC Ready exams.
Eastside Elementary students have emerged triumphant, securing the second highest position in the state for the percentage of students scoring at “Meets or Exceeds” expectations on the SC Ready exams. This exceptional performance has not only brought recognition to the school but has also attracted the attention of prominent figures in education and sports.
Tanya Wilson, the Principal of Eastside Elementary School, expressed her joy and gratitude for the recognition, stating, “We received a call from the state department that we were number 2 in the state for making progress in our SC Ready scores last spring, so they wanted to come celebrate us. They wanted to come during Read Across America week and bring the Panthers with them. It’s a way to celebrate our kids and reading at the same time.”
The Carolina Panthers, including players, cheerleaders, and staff, will descend upon the Clinton High School Gym to create a memorable experience for the students. This unique celebration, similar to a pep rally, aims to recognize academic excellence and promote a love for reading among the young minds of Eastside Elementary.
South Carolina Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver will attend the event, further emphasizing the significance of this achievement. The collaboration between the Panthers and the Department of Education symbolizes a powerful partnership between the worlds of sports and academics, fostering an environment that champions both physical and intellectual excellence.
During the celebration, each Eastside Elementary student will have the opportunity to choose three free books from a book fair generously provided by the Carolina Panthers.
The entire Eastside community, along with supporters and well-wishers, is invited to join in the festivities and show their support for the students.
