Carswell, Bunce-Douglas and Connolly Appointed to Leadership Positions

HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker College has appointed associate vice president positions in academic affairs, administration, and enrollment management.
William Carswell, previously associate professor of music, has been appointed associate provost for academic affairs. Carswell will work alongside provost Tracy Parkinson as a representative of the academic division of the college, while providing leadership for curriculum implementation, personnel management and budget planning.“Dr. Carswell has committed himself to Coker College for over a decade as a professor and a campus leader,” said Parkinson. “He cares deeply for the College and the wellbeing of its students, faculty, and staff. His appointment allows for a renewed and deepened focus on the support mechanisms that are essential to the success of all of us at the College.”Carswell, a Coker faculty member since 2002, received a bachelor of music education from Appalachian State University, a master of music degree from Florida State University and a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of South Carolina. Carswell also conducts the Coker Singers, Chamber Singers and Men’s Vocal Ensemble. In 2012, he was named music director and conductor of the Masterworks Choir in Florence, S.C. Carswell received the 2010 Excellence in Teaching Award from South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities in recognition of his accomplishments and commitment to excellence in collegiate teaching.
Brianna Bunce-Douglas, previously director of human resources, has been appointed associate vice president of administration. Bunce-Douglas’ responsibilities include overseeing the office of human resources; the office of college services; campus retail operations; and Kalmia Gardens fundraising, marketing and maintenance.
Brianna brings a mixture of high energy, professional accomplishment and love of Coker College to this position,” said Tony Floyd, vice president for administration and legal counsel. “Those qualities make her a perfect fit for serving our students, parents, staff and faculty. Our team will be energized by her gifts of innovation and strategic thinking, and she is going to be a great leader within our team.”
Bunce-Douglas, a Coker staff member since 2009, received a bachelor of arts from Coker College, a bachelor of science in human resources from the University of South Carolina and a master of business administration in human resources from the University of North Florida. She has served on the Hartsville Downtown Development Board, the City of Hartsville Economic Development Committee and the Coker College Alumni Board. Currently, Douglas serves on the St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church Vestry and the Byerly Foundation Board.
Adam Connolly, previously director of admissions, has been appointed associate vice president for enrollment management. Connolly’s responsibilities include overseeing undergraduate admissions and financial aid, representing enrollment management on administrative committees and predicting future and consistent enrollment growth with the retention committee.
“When we interviewed Adam for a position at Coker, I was impressed by the unanimous opinion, presented by his references, that he is the ‘consummate admissions professional.’ After having witnessed Adam’s performance at Coker for the past three years, his reputation has proven correct,” said Steve Terry, vice president for enrollment management. “He understands the admissions profession, and our enrollment growth during his time here is an indication of his expertise. I am excited for Adam as he continues to advance at Coker and in the profession.”
Connolly, a Coker staff member since 2011, received a bachelor of arts in communication and history from College of Mount Saint Vincent and a master of education in higher education administration with a concentration in enrollment management from Drexel University. He has 10 years of experience working in higher education services.
