February 4, 2026

Carvers Bay Middle School STEAM Academy has been named a New and Emerging Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.

CBMSA is dedicated to preparing students to become confident problem-solvers and future leaders through innovative learning experiences grounded in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students tackle real-world challenges in engineering design, environmental studies, robotics, and the creative arts, developing critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Partnerships with organizations like the SC Sea Grant Consortium enrich learning through mentorships and authentic experiences, while programs such as AVID support academic growth schoolwide. From robotics teams advancing to regional competitions to expanded fine arts opportunities and national student achievements, Carvers Bay Middle STEAM Academy fosters a culture of excellence, pride, and innovation by empowering students to succeed in school and beyond.

“Winning the Magnet Schools of America Merit School of Distinction is affirmation that we are on the right path,” said Principal Norine Fraiser. “This recognition reinforces our commitment to breaking down barriers, raising expectations, and ensuring every student can reach their full potential.”

Carvers Bay Middle School STEAM Academy will be recognized and receive a Magnet School of Distinction Award during an awards ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s National Conference April 14-17, 2026, in San Diego.

To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.
