Cason Development Group redeveloping North Main property

August 6, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Cason Development Group announces the purchase and redevelopment of 1209 Franklin St., in Columbia’s North Main area for a new local restaurant. Details on the restaurant will be announced this fall.

The 2,400-square-foot building was formerly an auto repair shop and had been used in recent years for auto storage. Just off Main Street, the building is in the city’s Cottontown Neighborhood.

Total investment, including the building’s purchase price, in the redevelopment project is expected to be around $400,000, said Frank Cason, owner of Columbia-based Cason Development Group.

The property is located in an area that has been dubbed NOMA, the northern part of Main Street from Elmwood Avenue to the railroad trestle, an area where city officials have been working to encourage redevelopment as prices rise and redevelopment property becomes scarce along Main Street from the Statehouse to Elmwood.

Cason sees tremendous potential in NOMA. “I was sort of taken aback when I drove through Cottontown and Elmwood Park at the beginning of our site search. There is more unique architecture than probably anywhere else in the city, more character than arguably any neighborhoods around downtown. I think it suggests the feel of the Shandon area with arguably more character. And there is no neighborhood with a closer proximity to the Vista.”
