Cason Development moving offices to Cottontown, bringing pizzeria to neighborhood

August 1, 2018

Cason Development Group is moving to Cottontown and also bringing a new pizza restaurant.

Cason will relocate its offices to 2144 Sumter St. in September after renovation of the property is completed. In addition, Città del Cotone, a new pizzeria by Rick Marzan who had the popular Noah’s Antica Pizzeria in Irmo, will open at 2150 Sumter St. in early fall.

The 3,000-square-foot building at 2144 Sumter, the 1,000-square-foot building at 2150 and an adjacent 4,000-square-foot building at 2146 Sumter are all part of the former Dave’s Transmission property that Cason acquired in late 2017. Cason also acquired a nearby parking lot to provide sufficient parking for the development.

Città del Cotone, Italian for Cottontown, also hopes to open in September, said Marzan and his business partner  well-known area restauranteur Tommy Price. Price created Za’s Brick Oven Pizza on Devine Street and was later involved with the creation of the Crescent Grill in Camden, the Mill Pond Steakhouse in Boykin and the Congaree Grill in Columbia’s Five Points.

Città del Cotone will serve authentic Neapolitan-style pizza, Marzan said. The restaurant will have approximately 32 seats and carry-out service. Marzan, a former  actor and producer in Los Angeles – “Bull Durham” and “Heat” – and graduate of Spring Valley High School, opened Noah’s in 2012 but closed it in 2015.

Cason is looking for another restaurant tenant for 2146 Sumter. The proposed restaurants would share a common courtyard and outdoor dining area.

Joining Cason as tenants at 2144 Sumter St. will be Seed Architecture, McKay Consulting Group, and a local attorney.

“We remain excited about the continued growth that Cottontown and North Main have experienced and want to be more of a part of the energy that so many businesses have created out there,” said Frank Cason, owner of Cason Development Group

Renovation of all three buildings is well underway.  Boyer Commercial Construction is the contractor for the project, Seed is the architect and The Landplan Group South is the site engineer. Landplan recently relocated to 1206 Scott St. in Cottontown, less than a block from the Cason developments in the area.

Cason Development Group has acquired and redeveloped eight properties along Franklin and Sumter streets in Cottontown.

Cason is also seeking a unique tenant for 2204 Sumter Street — the former Columbia location for Loomis Armored Trucks. The 6,000-square-foot Loomis building is distinctive in that it includes a large bank vault. Loomis provided cash management services for Columbia area businesses. Cason believes the building would be perfect for a brewery or distillery, or even a unique gym but is open to other uses.
