Cathy Hoefer McCabe named President of the USC Upstate Foundation

January 31, 2018

Respected community leader and accomplished professional Cathy Hoefer McCabe was recently named president of the University of South Carolina Upstate Foundation, which supports the University in all of its educational, research, instructional, scientific, literary, service, charitable and outreach endeavors.

“I’m honored to serve the USC Upstate Foundation and I look to working with a dedicated Foundation board, an energetic and focused University chancellor, and the team of professionals at the Foundation,” said McCabe, who joined the foundation board in 2012. “Together, we can engage supporters of the University in more substantive, mutually beneficial ways.”

As foundation president, McCabe will play a critical role leading the Foundation’s initiatives during this pivotal time as the University celebrates its 50th Anniversary and plans for Chancellor Brendan B. Kelly’s Investiture Celebration in October.

McCabe began her career as a middle school teacher but left the teaching profession in 1991 to attend the University of South Carolina School of Law.  In 1994, Cathy became an associate in Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann’s Spartanburg office and was made partner in 1998.  From 2003 to 2006, she was a partner in The Ward Law Firm before becoming the full-time city attorney for the City of Spartanburg.

“Cathy McCabe has built a very successful career in Spartanburg all the while being very active in community and professional organizations,” said Dr. Meredith Brunen, vice chancellor for university advancement and executive director of the USC Upstate Foundation. “She will be a huge asset in helping USC Upstate tell its unbelievable success story with our alumni, parents, donors, and friends, which will help us build philanthropic support and help the University move forward.”
