CCSD places 26 students on list of 2019 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

September 19, 2018

Charleston County School District (CCSD) is excited to announce 26 of its students are Semifinalists for the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program; the National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists last week.

These academically talented high school seniors now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth a total of about $31 million that will be offered this spring.

About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
