Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with special day at the Georgetown County Library
January 4, 2026The Georgetown County Main Library invites you to a special interactive day in honor of the late Martin Luther King, Jr. on Friday, January 16 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the 405 Cleland Street branch auditorium. The Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Day Exhibit is meant to be a day of inspiration, learning, and community as the library honors the legacy of Dr. King and his involvement in the civil rights movement.
There will be a collection of speakers as well as a self-guided tour that includes the I Have a Dream display, craft stations, Did You Know? Trivia, Dream Hands Memorial, and Virtual Reality stations for kids (ages 10+) and more.Â
The day of presentations begins with Once Upon A Dream Storytime with author Iesha Tucker at 11:00 am. Then at noon, noted author, historian and orator Steve Williams will lead a session entitled Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Marlanda Dekine, poet laureate, author and licensed social worker, will explore I Have a Dream at 1:00 pm, and at 2:00 pm, noted author, artist and civil rights activist Raymond M. Grant will lead the final session, entitled The Dream is Still Being Written.
While the event is open to all ages, children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
