Center for Law and Global Policy Development begins new series

With the goal of informing and engaging the public about important issues, students who study in the Lexington County School District One’s Center for Law and Global Policy Development created a new series of educational events. The Center is located at River Bluff High School.
Beginning Tuesday, January 24, 2017, the Center for Law and Global Policy Development begins hosting bi-monthly Education Policy Symposiums addressing concerns facing education. The first symposium discusses the impact of education policy and legislation that the South Carolina General Assembly could address in the upcoming legislative session.
Local experts joining the panel discussion include Representative Terry Alexander from Florence, South Carolina Education Oversight Committee Executive Director Melanie Barton, South Carolina Senator Michael Fanning from Fairfield, Palmetto State Teachers Association Executive Director Kathy Maness, Lexington District One Chief Operations Officer Jeff Salters, Lexington County School District One Educational Foundation Ambassador and South Carolina Department of Education Contracts and MOU Manager Dino Teppara, and Palmetto Promise Institute President and CEO Ellen Weaver.
“This is a great opportunity for all stakeholders to meet students and hear potential policy and legislative proposals,” Center Lead Teacher Meg H. Huggins said. “Join us as we work together to improve the education policy and legislation conversation.”
The Education Policy Symposium begins with a networking social from 6 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a panel discussion from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public, and media is welcome to attend.
