Central Carolina Community Foundation announces 2016 Best of Philanthropy Award winners

Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands expert in philanthropy, and Columbia Metropolitan Magazine will recognize the recipients of the 2016 Best of Philanthropy Awards on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 701 Whaley at 6:00 p.m. The community is invited to join in the celebration of the everyday individuals, businesses and groups who have made significant contributions to our community throughout the year, demonstrating the true meaning and value of helping others.
Each year, nominations are accepted from the community and winners are chosen in four categories: individual/family, student/student group, local business and young professional. Winners are honored with a $1,000 donation made in their name to the nonprofit organization of their choice in the Foundation’s service area and are featured in the November issue of Columbia Metropolitan Magazine.
Tickets to the Best of Philanthropy Awards are $50 each and include cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres at 6:00 p.m. followed by the awards presentation at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at www.yourfoundation.org/BestofPhilanthropy.
This year’s winners are as follows:
Individual Award: M. Todd Crump, M.D.
Dr. Todd Crump has served as the volunteer Medical Director of The Free Medical Clinic for 18 years while also working his full time job as an emergency room physician at Lexington Medical Center. Dr. Crump helps the Clinic fulfill their mission of providing high quality healthcare to those without access to health insurance/Medicaid.
Local Business: Cox Industries
Cox Industries, located in Orangeburg S.C, truly cares about its local community and state. In the last nine years, Cox Industries’ philanthropic efforts have raised over $450,000 for Edisto Habitat for Humanity, in Orangeburg, SC and built homes for nine families.
Student Group: Richland One Middle College Team V.I.P (Volunteering is Philanthropy)
Members of Team V.I.P understand that philanthropy is not just about money but anything that can be given to benefit the community, such as their time, effort and talents. The students have mentored youth through tutoring, modeled positive teen behavior through their work with youth at the Department of Juvenile Justice, and ministered to the needs of senior citizens. During this past year, 95 students from Richland One Middle College were engaged in community service, volunteering 8,550 hours and donating more than 285 pounds of food, 157 books and 42 coats and blankets to local organizations.
Young Professional: Erin McCaskill
Erin’s dedication to leadership and serving others while successfully balancing her growing family and emerging career as a Private Banking Relationship Manager with First Citizens Wealth Management sets her apart from many young professionals. Erin serves on multiple boards and spends her spare time volunteering for a wide variety of organizations, including Lexington Medical Center Foundation, Women of Hope Gala, the American Heart Association, Women in Philanthropy and more.
