Central Carolina Community Foundation awards more than $8.3 million in grants and scholarships in first half of fiscal year
January 28, 2022Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ leader in collaborative philanthropy, today announced that during the first half of the 2021-2022 fiscal year (July 1 to December 31, 2021), more than $8.3 million was awarded in grants and scholarships — a 15% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
In total, the Community Foundation awarded $8,310,402.85, through 1,282 grants and scholarships, impacting a variety of causes across the region and state. Some grants are awarded at the discretion of the Community Foundation’s Community Impact Committee, while others are awarded based on fundholder recommendations. All grants and scholarships are approved by the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

The types of organizations most funded during the first two quarters, included education and scholarships, faith-based, human services, arts and culture and community improvement. The grants bring the Foundation’s lifetime grantmaking total to more than $228 million.
More than $450,000 in scholarships was also included in the total amount awarded, providing financial assistance to over 200 of South Carolina’s and the country’s outstanding students for the 2021-2022 school year. Of note, 67% of the Community Foundation’s scholarship recipients were first-generation college students. Scholarship applications for the 2022-2023 school year are currently open through March 5, 2022.
