“Philanthropy Across Cultures” Panel Opens Door to Year-Long Discussion
Central Carolina Community Foundation – the Midlands’ expert on philanthropy – introduces a year-long, community-wide discussion about multicultural giving by celebrating the sixth annual Black Philanthropy Month throughout August 2016: a coordinated effort to strengthen African-American and African-descent giving in all forms, in the South Carolina Midlands and beyond.
Black Philanthropy Month: “Elevating A Culture of Giving”
The purpose of Black Philanthropy Month is to inform, involve, inspire and invest in Black philanthropic leadership. This year’s focal concept is “Elevating A Culture of Giving,” aiming to inspire ways of conscious and strategic giving in Black communities. The initiative encompasses self-organized events, community dialogue and charitable giving across the nation; sponsored by Central Carolina Community Foundation and other philanthropic leaders like Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Arizona Community Foundation, Southeastern Council of Foundations, Cleveland Foundation and Triangle Community Foundation. “Philanthropy Across Cultures” Panel
Central Carolina Community Foundation will present “Talk About Giving: Philanthropy Across Cultures,” a panel discussion that will discuss and celebrate giving across cultures and races, as a part of the nationwide initiative of Black Philanthropy Month and the blockbuster exhibit “RACE: Are We So Different” at the South Carolina State Museum.
The panel – facilitated by Valaida Fullwood, Black Philanthropy Month leader and author of “Giving Back, the Soul of Philanthropy” – will bring together five local charitable leaders:
• Dr. Ben Dixon, Cola Gives Giving Circle
• Ms. Anita Garrett, The Weathers Group and Women Engaged Giving Circle
• Dr. Stephanie Kripa Cooper-Lewter, Visionary Founding Chair of Roshni, Lost Sarees National Women’s Giving Circle
• Mr. Khue Nguyen, Vietnamese American Association of Greater Columbia
• Ms. Maria Gonda Smoak, Mgsmoak and Associates
The “Philanthropy Across Cultures” panel will take place at the South Carolina State Museum in the Gervais Room on Saturday, August 27, 2016, 10:00-11:30 a.m. Members of the audience will receive a free day pass to the exhibit “RACE: Are We So Different.”
