Chamber Music Charleston announces its 2026-2027 concert season, celebrating over two decades of musical excellence

March 3, 2026

Chamber Music Charleston (CMC) announces its 2026–2027 season, marking more than 20 years of presenting exceptional chamber music in some of Charleston’s most distinctive and inspiring venues. With over 48 concerts planned, the upcoming season reflects CMC’s ongoing commitment to artistic excellence, adventurous programming, and intimate musical experiences that connect performers and audiences in meaningful ways.

The 2026–2027 season features Chamber Music Charleston’s ensemble of professional musicians alongside an impressive roster of internationally acclaimed guest artists. Performances will take place in a wide range of settings, from private homes in Downtown Charleston, Kiawah Island, and Bishop Gadsden, to historic spaces including South Carolina Society Hall, the Dock Street Theatre, and the soaring sanctuary of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

The season launches on Sunday, September 28th with the annual audience favorite “Tango Meets Classical” concert, led by acclaimed violinist Francisco Fullana and pianist Maxim Lando. The program pairs the fiery passion of Astor Piazzolla with the sweeping lyricism of César Franck’s Piano Quintet. As part of Chamber Music Charleston’s Youth Chamber Music Initiative, Fullana and Lando will also collaborate with the Charleston County School of the Arts Sinfonietta, culminating in a performance of Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Piano, Violin, and Strings in D minor on Friday, September 26.

The season concludes on May 9, 2027 with the award-winning Viano String Quartet performing works by Haydn and Mendelssohn. Praised for their “virtuosity, visceral expression, and rare unity of intention” (Boston Globe), the Viano Quartet has quickly soared to international acclaim as one of the most dynamic and in-demand string quartets of their generation.

Throughout the season, audiences will be treated to an array of intimate and grand performances. Highlights include:

• October: Violinist Anthea Kreston joins CMC violinist Frances Hsieh, violists Ben and Jenny Weiss, and cellist Timothy O’Malley for an intimate afternoon of chamber music at historic South Carolina Society Hall.
• November: International star violinist Stella Chen leads an ensemble of CMC and guest musicians in Charles Martin Loeffler’s lush and rarely heard Octet at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
• January: Pianist Michael Stephen Brown and violinist Lun Li return to Charleston for a program of music by Fauré and Dvořák at the Dock Street Theatre.
• February: Pianist Andrew Armstrong, violinist Nathan Meltzer and cellist Sarah Scanlon perform Schubert’s Piano Trio in E-flat Major, D. 929 in the ballroom of South Carolina Society Hall.
