Chamber Wins Workplace Flexibility Award
May 27, 2011CHARLESTON, SC – May 27, 2011 – For the third year, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce was honored with the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.
Nine other organizations from the Charleston region were also selected as finalists for the award and recognized at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting May 25. Thirteen businesses applied through the When Work Works program, a nation-wide initiative on effective and flexible workplaces.
This award recognizes exemplary employers for their innovative workplace effectiveness and flexibility programs and practices. Using a rigorous scoring methodology that includes employees’ views as well as employer practices, the Alfred P. Sloan Awards honor organizations and worksites that are using workplace flexibility as a strategy to increase workplace effectiveness, yield positive business results and to help employees succeed. To be eligible, employers must have a worksite in Charleston, a minimum of ten employees and in operation for at least one year.

For the past four years, Charleston has been selected to participate in When Work Works which is designed to share research and best practices on what makes work “work” in the 21st Century. Leadership in the Charleston region for When Work Works was designated to the Business Development Division at the Chamber.
