Chapin Native Lauren Powell Joins Little Mountain Family Health
June 26, 2014LITTLE MOUNTAIN, SC – For Lauren Powell, a family nurse practitioner, the opportunity to join the Little Mountain Family Health Center as one of the practice’s primary care giver was like a dream come true for the Chapin native. “I feel like I’m coming home.”
Ask Dr. John Thompson and he says Powell’s hiring is “just what the doctor ordered.”
“For the last five years, we’ve been very fortunate to have Kristen Goodwin as our family nurse practitioner,” said Dr. Thompson. “When Kristen’s husband was transferred to a new job out of state, she decided, of course, to join him. So we were short a valuable member of our healthcare team. Then we met Lauren and she’s just the person we need!”
Powell grew up in Chapin and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She then enrolled in the Medical University of South Carolina, where she earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice and a Master of Science in Nursing. Prior to becoming a family nurse practitioner, she worked as a registered nurse in an Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical/Telemetry unit, and as a clinical research nurse. Much of her training was in family practice and women’s health.
“My passion is to provide holistic care to patients and their families. Recognizing that each patient has his or her own particular needs, I take the time to listen and form relationships with patients and their families,” said Powell. “Enjoying a physically active lifestyle myself, I am an advocate for promoting overall healthier lifestyles and helping patients achieve a better quality of life.”
Powell began seeing patients at Little Mountain Family Health Center, which is located at 99 North Mill Street in Little Mountain, on June 23. The practice is hosting an open house on Tuesday, July 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to welcome Powell and bid a fond farewell to Goodwin. The community is invited to attend.
