Chapin Police to offer Citizens Academy this fall

August 2, 2016

The Chapin Police Department is accepting applications for the Chapin Citizens Academy, a six-week program designed to expose citizens to police operations and build stronger relationships between the community and the police department.

Classes will begin on Wednesday, September 14 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm in the Community Room at Chapin Town Hall (157 NW Columbia Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036) and meet weekly through October 19, 2016. Instruction will be administered by department personnel and include an overview of police operations and organization, an introduction to community oriented policing, patrol functions, criminal investigations, narcotics as well as other police functions.

Qualified applicants must be 18 years of age, and successfully submit to a background check to be completed by the police department. Registration is open to citizens in the greater Chapin area but Town of Chapin residents and business owners will have first priority. Applications can be downloaded from the Chapin Police page on the town’s website or picked up from Chapin Town Hall. Space is limited to 20 participants, and the deadline to submit an application is Friday, August 26 by 5:00 pm.
