Chapin Town Council sets date for special referendum for Nov. 4
September 8, 2014CHAPIN, SC – The Chapin Town Council voted unanimously at a special called meeting to set November 4, 2014, for a ballot referendum for Chapin voters to select their preferred form of government.
Chapin currently has a Mayor-Council form of government, but a petition drive led by residents and championed by the three incumbent council members is seeking to switch to a council form of government.
The referendum question that will be on the ballot is: “Shall the municipality of the Town of Chapin, SC change its form of government from mayor-council form of government to Council form of government.” A Yes vote would be in favor of changing the form while a No vote would maintain the current system which has been in place in 1976, when the state mandated that municipalities adopt one of three prescribed forms of government – Mayor-Council, Council, or Council-Manager.
The last day to register to vote in this election will be October 4, 2014. Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot.
