Charleston Allstate Agent to Host Teen Driving Event
October 19, 2011Allstate Teams Up with Families to Challenge Distracted Driving
CHARLESTON, SC – October 19, 2011 – In 2009, nearly 5,500 people were killed and 500,000 more were injured in distracted driving crashes. And tragically, younger, more inexperienced drivers under the age of 20 are the most likely to be involved in distraction-related fatal crashes. In fact, car crashes remain the leading killer of American teens overall, with nearly 4,000 teens killed and 300,000 injured annually.
To help save lives and encourage families to make a pledge together to limit or eliminate distractions in the car, Allstate is bringing Allstate’s Safe Driving Challenge course to Charleston. Local teens and their parents will drive through the course, trying to avoid cones and focus on the road, while learning firsthand about the dangers of driving distracted. Local Allstate agent Kevin Shealy was selected to host this event, which will be held on Monday, Oct. 24, at The Citadel Mall (parking lot near the Sears entrance) from 3:30-7 p.m.
Representatives of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Charleston Police Department will address the teens about the dangers of distracted driving.
A safe driving challenge course for teens and their parents is aimed at reducing distracted driving practices such as texting and talking on the phone. It will be set up in the parking lot near the Sears entrance at The Citadel Mall, 2070 Sam Rittenberg Bvld., (near Intersection of I 526 and Highway 7) Charleston, S.C., 29407-4609.
