Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced the appointment of Dr. Abigail D. Woods as the new Executive Director of Expanded Learning. In this leadership role, Dr. Woods will oversee district-wide implementation of all before-school, after-school, and summer learning programs, with a focus on advancing student outcomes, closing achievement gaps, and aligning extended learning experiences with CCSD’s instructional goals as the Expanded Learning Team also transitions into the Academics Division.

Dr. Woods brings over two decades of experience in education, including district-level leadership in finance and innovation, as well as school-level success as a principal and assistant principal. Most recently, she served as CCSD’s Director of Internal Consulting and Director of Financial Operations, where she led the district’s Weighted Student Funding initiative and supported a $12 million Education Innovation and Research grant focused on culturally responsive classrooms.

A former principal at Memminger Elementary and Minnie Hughes Elementary, Dr. Woods has a strong track record of fostering student progress, implementing International Baccalaureate programming, and building school cultures rooted in high expectations and strong relationships. She is also a certified executive leadership coach and adjunct professor, helping educators and aspiring leaders grow in their craft.

As Executive Director, Dr. Woods will lead efforts to expand access to high-quality extended day and summer programming, support school-based partnerships, and develop systems for continuous program improvement. She will also be responsible for aligning the district’s after-school initiatives with academic recovery goals, providing oversight for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, and strengthening community engagement.
