Charleston International Airport sees strong holiday travel with 148,570 passengers during Christmas–New Year period
January 5, 2026Charleston International Airport (CHS) experienced a busy and successful holiday travel season, with 148,570 travelers passing through the TSA security checkpoint during the 2025 Christmas and New Year’s holiday period, representing a 7.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The average wait time at the TSA checkpoint during this period was 6 minutes for standard passengers; and 3.5 minutes for TSA PreCheck passengers.
The increase reflects continued demand for air travel in the Lowcountry and Charleston’s growing appeal as both a leisure and business destination. Airport operations remained steady throughout the holiday period, with airport staff, airline partners, and TSA working collaboratively to ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers.
“Seeing nearly 150,000 travelers move through our terminal checkpoint over the Christmas and New Year holidays is a strong indicator of Charleston’s continued growth and the confidence travelers have in CHS,” said Elliott Summey, President and CEO of Charleston International Airport. “This level of activity is a direct result of the dedication and professionalism of our airport employees and partners, who worked tirelessly to keep passengers moving safely and efficiently during one of the busiest travel times of the year.”
