Charleston Public Safety and National Guard Aid Laurens County in Storm Recovery Efforts, As Local Officials Continue Damage Assessments
October 1, 2024Yesterday, Charleston Public Safety deployed its Unified Mobile Command post here to assist our community in the wake of recent storm damage. The National Guard has also been present. These units will support efforts to assess damage, clear roads, and provide aid to affected citizens. The mobile command post enhances our ability to coordinate response efforts and deliver timely assistance where it’s needed most. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all residents as we work together to recover from this event. Thank you, Charleston and National Guard, for your presence and willingness to help.
County staff continues with damage assessments and seeking assistance. Life safety, debris clearing, and meeting basic humanitarian needs continue to be priorities.
“Laurens County Administration did their due diligence to request support and assistance and we are still waiting for resource requests to be fulfilled. We hear our citizens, and we have been diligently working from the beginning to get them the assistance needed. I want to thank our local law enforcement and other first responders for all they are doing around the clock,” said County Administrator Thomas Higgs.
County Administration will confirm the delivery of supplies (MREs, water, and tarps) to be dispersed as soon as possible. Please wait for our confirmation of this distribution.
