Charleston School of Law organization giving back to the cCommunity through its Angel Tree Project

November 18, 2016

The Black Law Students Association of the Charleston School of Law is proud to announce its 11th Annual Angel Tree Project. This project started on November 7, 2016 and will continue until December 12, 2016. At that time, the Black Law Students Association will deliver gifts to the students of Memminger Elementary School.

For over a decade, The Black Law Students Association (BLSA) of the Charleston School of Law has sought to uphold the law school’s motto and mission of “Pro bono populi” which means, “for the good of the people” by completing community service projects. BLSA has hosted panel discussions, voting drives, blood drives, and book drives, just to name a few projects. However, the Angel Tree project is BLSA’s most important community service project. BLSA seeks to provide a little Christmas joy to children in the community. BLSA brought the Angel Tree concept to Charleston School of Law in 2005 and it has remained a staple spirit of giving rather than receiving for 11 years. Each year, BLSA chooses a different school, gathers a Christmas list from the students, and then asks members of the law school community or members of the community in general, to choose a child, their list, and donate a gift to that specific child. After all the gifts are collected, they are then taken to the previously chosen school and given to each child based on their Christmas list. Through our Parliamentarian and Chair of this year’s Angel Tree Project, Ms. Brianna Bogan, we seek this year to make our most important community service effort, better than it has ever been.

On Monday, December 12, 2016 we will be traveling to Memminger Elementary School to deliver the gifts to the children.
