Charleston Tech continues strong upward wage momentum in 2025
December 2, 2025The Charleston Digital Corridor (CDC) announced today that companies participating in its 2025 Annual Wage & Job Growth Survey reported an average per-capita wage of $130,522, the highest since wage tracking began in 2003.
This average is more than double South Carolina’s statewide wage of $56,990 and the Charleston region’s average of $61,670, based on the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data (May 2024).
2025 Workforce & Workspace Insights
- 50% of surveyed companies added jobs in 2025
- 40% expect to hire in 2026
- 50% expect their remote/in-office balance to remain unchanged next year • 40% anticipate increased remote employment in 2026
- 80% expect steady workspace needs
Survey responses reflect the diverse nature of local tech operations. Roughly half reported remote employees make up as much as 50% of their staff, while the other half reported 10% or less. This mix underscores the breadth and adaptability of Charleston’s tech workforce.
“While wage levels remain strong across Charleston’s tech sector, conversations with local executives suggest a sense of cautious optimism,” said Ernest Andrade, Executive Director, Charleston Digital Corridor. “Lingering uncertainty around interest rates, inflation, and other macroeconomic factors continues to influence hiring and investment decisions.”
Charleston tech remains robust, fueled by significant capital investment from national firms such as Google, continued success among local startups raising capital, and a steady influx of professionals and companies expanding into the region.
Looking ahead, the CDC’s growing emphasis on dual-use technologies aligned with national priorities is expected to drive additional high-wage job creation and spur new company formation.
