ChartSpan locating headquarters in Greenville County

GREENVILLE, SC – January 16, 2014 – ChartSpan Medical Technologies, LLC, a healthcare data company that has developed the world’s first automated tool allowing users to upload, store and manage their electronic healthcare records on a smartphone, tablet or computer, will establish its new headquarters in Greenville County. It plans to add 11 new positions immediately, and as many as 30 high-tech positions over the next 18 to 24 months.
ChartSpan has developed the world’s first consumer technology automating the conversion of paper healthcare records into electronic records, through the most advanced patient-based healthcare record application ever developed, said Jon-Michial Carter, CEO and founder of ChartSpan. We thank our investors and industry partners for their commitment and confidence, and greatly appreciate the assistance of the Greenville Area Development Corporation, SC BIO, The Iron Yard Accelerator Program, the Department of Commerce, and all partners who collaborated to help make today’s announcement a reality.
According to Carter, talented developers and experienced digital marketers will be hired to expand the firm’s product offering and launch its consumer technology. ChartSpan will locate its headquarters in the NEXT Innovation Center, located at 411 University Ridge in Greenville. The organization, which was incubated in The Iron Yard’s Healthcare Accelerator in Spartanburg, originally intended to return to Carter’s roots in Houston, Texas for its business launch before deciding to remain in the Palmetto State.

ChartSpan’s permission-based and de-identified data platform is uniquely generated by patients. ChartSpan provides patients, hospitals, insurers, pharmaceutical companies, health agencies and others access to real-time information and meaningful interpretation of healthcare data, removing dependencies on providers and enabling patients to manage their own data. Through innovative and patent-pending data recognition technology, ChartSpan turns paper healthcare records into electronic records, generating structured data and eliminating manual entry of personal records.

While Greenville and the Upstate may not be widely known yet as a hotbed for technology or bioscience organizations like ChartSpan, Carter maintains that the same characteristics that appealed to his organization to locate and grow here – quality of life, a pro-business mindset, an emerging high-impact technology ecosystem – will doubtless appeal to other organizations to consider this area.

ChartSpan’s new headquarters announcement demonstrates that great things happen when SCBIO and the state’s economic development groups work together, said Wayne Roper, President of SCBIO, a statewide group representing South Carolina’s life science industry. South Carolina is fast becoming the new hot spot for innovative life science companies to find great discovery resources and startup support.
ChartSpan will publicly release its consumer product in February, and the app will be available through the iTunes and Google Play app store.
