August 8, 2019

Greenville Technical College has named Chef Alan Scheidhauer as director of operations for the new Center for Culinary and Hospitality Innovation (CHI), anchor tenant for Poe West on Perry Avenue.

Scheidhauer will be responsible for seeing that the center helps nearby residents gain the skills needed to qualify for downtown’s many culinary and hospitality jobs, supports the industry with continuing education, and creates pathways to the college’s Culinary Institute of the Carolinas, which offers a full range of professional culinary instruction at the college’s Northwest Campus.

Chef Alan is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America with extensive culinary experience. In his 25 years with Greenville Technical College, Scheidhauer has been instrumental in building the offerings and reputation of the culinary program.

Quick Jobs programs in Server/Wait staff, Bartending, and Cooking and Baking Skills will be featured at the Center for Culinary and Hospitality Innovation, giving job seekers quick access to opportunity. The center will also offer continuing education for culinary and hospitality professionals close to where they work so that they can grow their skills and advance. In addition, personal interest classes, summer camps, culinary incubator space, a culinary television show, and a new hospitality and tourism program will be featured. The facility will include a 50-seat studio kitchen, a multi-purpose teaching kitchen, and three interactive classrooms, one of which is designed specifically for service, wines and mixology training.

Tenants of Poe West will focus on the culinary and hospitality areas, enhancing and growing Greenville’s reputation as a travel destination. The Greenville Tech Foundation will move to the facility and work alongside CHI. Other tenants will include Unlocked Coffee Roasters, Carolina Bauernhaus, LaRue Fine Chocolate, and Six & Twenty Distillery. The Furman Company is in the process of renovating the property at 556 Perry Avenue in preparation for a 2020 opening.
