April 21, 2022Move further integrates public affairs into service offerings and expands footprint globally
Chernoff Newman, acclaimed integrated communications agency in the Southeast, has hired Mark Duffy to formally establish its public affairs division, strengthening its service offerings and focusing on growing national and global business.
With more than a decade of Washington, D.C.-based experience working with clients across the globe, Duffy brings a diverse background that will help expand the agency’s influence both throughout the Southeast and worldwide. Over his career, he’s provided counsel to political candidates, Fortune 500 companies, trade associations, third-party coalitions and governments in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
“Mark is a transformational addition to our leadership team as we expand our footprint in public affairs initiatives,” said Chernoff Newman’s president of public relations, Peter LaMotte. “He builds upon the agency’s proven reputation as leaders in communications strategies across numerous industries. Mark will advance our offerings to a global level, building on the important public affairs work we’ve been doing regionally for the past 50 years.”
As the vice president of public affairs, Duffy will craft integrated communications programs that will influence policy decisions, shape public opinion and protect client reputation. Most recently, Duffy served as executive vice president and chair of the international practice at Signal Group based in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, Duffy managed public affairs programs at MSLGROUP including serving as senior advisor to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. Some of his career achievements include crafting and executing a U.S. communications program for a European Union foreign minister, helping to manage the Irish American Presidential Forum for U.S. Senator John McCain, and executing a winning public affairs campaign to save thousands of American manufacturing jobs, resulting in a national media event with the 39th U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.
“Moving to Chernoff Newman is allowing me to get more involved in the local community and have a better quality of life,” Duffy said. “Chernoff Newman changed my perception of what is possible outside of D.C. Its established roster of esteemed connections, well respected reputation in the Southeast and talented group of professionals are on par with the firms I’ve worked with across the globe.”
Duffy holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in international business from the University College of Dublin in Ireland, his home country, and a master’s degree in political management from George Washington University.
