“China’s New Development: From Economic Downturn to Another Asset Price Bubble?” is part of the Clemson University Center for China Studies 2009 Speaker Series and will feature Mingchun Sun, chief China economist with the international financial institution Nomura, a Japanese company headquartered in Tokyo.
“Until just a couple of months ago, pundits had been worried about whether China could sustain its annual GDP growth rate as high as 8 percent,” said Xiaobo Hu, Clemson political scientist and director of the Clemson China Center. “There are clear signs now, however, that the economy is on a rapidly rising trajectory, so everyone wants to know what China will be offering to the world in the future.”

His past work includes executive assistance and economic research for Capital One Financial and China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE). Sun received his bachelor’s degrees in economics from Fudan University, and both his master’s in engineering-economic systems and Ph.D. in management science and engineering from Stanford University.
