Christmas at the Cabin: A Step Back in Time at the Joe Adair Outdoor Center
December 11, 2024The Joe Adair Outdoor Center invites families to celebrate the holiday season with Christmas at the Cabin this Sunday, December 16, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Located at 110 Scout Creek Court in Laurens, the event promises a festive and educational experience steeped in history and tradition.
Volunteers will bring the late 1800s to life, donning period clothing and demonstrating tools and skills from the era. Attendees can watch engaging demonstrations of spinning wheels, lap loom weaving, candle dipping, and corn grinding. Children and adults alike will also enjoy the chance to see live animals up close, making this a perfect blend of fun and learning for the whole family.
In addition to the historical demonstrations, families can participate in a creative activity by painting tree cookie ornaments—unique, hand-painted keepsakes perfect for the Christmas season. For those looking to capture a little holiday magic, special visitors from the North Pole will be on hand for photos. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras or phones to snap memorable pictures with these cheerful guests.
Warm beverages will be available inside the classroom, where a volunteer will showcase some of the center’s resident animals. Guests can also enjoy a cup of hot apple cider by the fire.
The event highlights the historic cabin, an impressive feature of the Joe Adair Outdoor Center that was relocated from Gray Court. The cabin stands as a testament to local heritage and serves as a valuable resource for education and community events.
Event updates, including potential cancellations due to inclement weather, will be posted on the center’s Facebook page. Visitors are encouraged to check the page for the latest information.
