CHS Wrestlers Shine at State Tournament with Individual Titles and Top-Five Team Finish
February 24, 2026The Clinton High School wrestling program delivered an outstanding performance this weekend at the South Carolina Individual State Tournament in Florence, with multiple podium finishes and a state champion leading the charge.
A total of 11 Red Devil wrestlers qualified to compete at the prestigious event, representing CHS against the best athletes from across the state. Those who earned a spot at the state tournament were Mario Del Vecchio, Cooper Stinson, Camron Jackson, Shawn Burke, Kalief Jones, Henry Cody, Emanuel Lagroon, Anakin Polson, Ayden Gardo, Owen Lawton, and Rylan Lawton.
Three Clinton wrestlers finished on the podium in their respective weight classes. Mario Del Vecchio captured the State Championship at 165 pounds, securing the title with a dominant performance and bringing home gold for the Red Devils.
Two additional CHS wrestlers also earned third-place finishes. Cooper Stinson placed third at 106 pounds, while Henry Cody finished third at 175 pounds after strong showings throughout the tournament bracket.
The individual success translated into an impressive overall result for the team. Clinton High School finished fifth out of 48 teams statewide, highlighting the depth, determination, and competitive strength of the program.
Head Coach Wright praised the team’s effort and growth throughout the season.
“Very proud of the team wrestled this weekend and throughout the year,” said Wright. “The work that was putting during the offseason and at practices showed in their performances. Another great thing is that 10 of those 11 wrestlers return next year and I can’t wait to see what another offseason of training does for them this next season. They represented their school and team with pride and I’m very proud to be their coach.”
The performance marks a proud achievement for Clinton wrestling, as the Red Devils continue to build on a tradition of excellence and perseverance on the mat.
Congratulations to all competitors on an exceptional season — Go Big Red!
