CHARLESTON, SC – Trident Technical College Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development is offering an awareness workshop on church security to be conducted by Lt. Frank Jackson, a licensed officer. The workshop is of benefit to religious leaders in the community including all religious clergy and ministers, sextons, deacons and church board members as well as volunteers within houses of worship. Learn about staff training, policy procedure development, security assessments, protecting offerings, surveillance techniques, recognizing different kinds of threats and security team development.

When asked why TTC decided to offer this workshop, Michele Shinn, director of personal enrichment and special projects said, “While security and safety should be on the mind of every church administrator, the reality is a small percentage of churches do not focus on it until a tragedy or crime is perpetrated against their local body. Both violent and nonviolent crime is on the rise at churches.  Do you have policies and procedures in place to curb church crime and keep your congregation safe?”

Two-day workshop sessions will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Nov. 18 and 20; Feb. 17 and 19; March 17 and 19; or April 14 and 16. Costs $149 per person to attend; advanced registration is required. Those interested in participating can register online at www.tridenttech.edu/ce, by phone at 843.574.6152 or in person at the Trident Technical College Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development registration office located in Building 910 on the school’s main campus in North Charleston.
