City of Cayce one of six SC local governments to receive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
January 8, 2024
On January 2, at the first Cayce City Council meeting of 2024, the City of Cayce received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for Fiscal Year 2023- 2024 and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for Fiscal Year 2021-2022. Both awards were from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA.) Staff from the City’s Finance Team was recognized by City Council for these awards: Kelly McMullen, Cayce Municipal Treasurer; Allison Barrs, Financial Reporting Manager; and Leila Williams, Staff Accountant. The budget report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
These awards represent a significant achievement by our City, City staff; and are reflective of Cayce attaining the standard for effective budget presentation and a commitment to maintaining the highest principles of governmental budgeting and financial reporting.
Cayce now joins a select group of only five other South Carolina municipalities who were recognized with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year at the time of this publication. Only approximately 1,800 governments, including states, cities, counties, special districts, school districts, and more have been recognized for transparency in budgeting across the entire program. To earn recognition, budget documents must meet program criteria and excel as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.
Cayce City Manager, Tracy Hegler, stated, “Our priority is to be good stewards with public money. I could not be prouder of our Cayce staff that works hard year-round to ensure we maintain the highest level of transparency and fiscal accountability!”
