City of Charleston Board of Architectural Review to hold special meeting on Height District updates

May 16, 2017

Beginning this week, public hearing signs will be posted across the peninsula announcing proposed changes to height district zoning in the area. These changes would convert most of the existing height districts, measured in feet, to districts measured by the number of stories. The updates would not affect current structures, but would be used for zoning guidelines for new construction.

The City of Charleston Board of Architectural Review (Large and Small) will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at 75 Calhoun Street, Third Floor (HR Training Room) to discuss these height district zoning updates.

Additionally, The City will hold the following public meetings to allow property owners, industry professionals, and members of the public to address comments to City staff, Planning Commission, and City Council about the proposed changes and to ask questions:

  • Architect Professionals Stakeholder Meeting: May 15, 10 a.m., Charleston Maritime Center, 10 Wharfside Street
  • Construction/Development Professionals Stakeholder Meeting: May 15, 2 p.m., Charleston Maritime Center, 10 Wharfside Street
