City of Columbia launches “Sistercare Saturdays” to support survivors of domestic violence – Aug 9

The City of Columbia announced the launch of “Sistercare Saturdays,” a new community initiative aimed at raising funds and awareness for Sistercare, a local nonprofit that supports victims of domestic violence and their families.

The first event will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Boyd Plaza, located at 1515 Main Street in downtown Columbia.

Organized by the City’s Public Relations, Media and Marketing Department, the event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including a dunking booth, raffle drawings featuring prizes from local businesses, and free yard games. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit informational booths hosted by Sistercare, the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the Columbia Police Department, the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, and other public safety partners.

“This event brings our community together in a fun and meaningful way to support a critical cause,” said City officials.

Ticket pricing for the activities is as follows:

  • Dunk Booth:
    • 3 throws for $5
    • 7 throws for $10
    • Instant dunk for $30

  • Raffle Tickets:
    • 1 ticket for $5
    • 3 tickets for $10
    • 7 tickets for $20

Even if you can’t attend in person, donations to Sistercare are welcomed on-site and online. In addition, attendees will be able to register early for the Mayor’s Walk Against Domestic Violence, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Page Ellington Park.
