“The Bloomberg Youth Climate Action Fund is proof that when we invest in our young people, we invest in real, lasting solutions for our communities. Thanks to the generous support of Bloomberg Philanthropies, Columbia’s youth are not only learning about climate challenges; they are leading innovative, hands-on projects addressing the issues we face today while shaping a more sustainable future,” said Mayor Daniel Rickenmann. “This showcase highlights the creativity, passion, and leadership of the next generation, and we are proud to give them the platform and resources to turn ideas into action.”
Bloomberg Philanthropies awarded the City of Columbia $100,000 in 2025 to distribute to youth aged 14-25 to conduct a climate action project. Projects ranged from upcycling athletic uniforms to blankets to a river cleanup and anti-litter education campaign. Attendees will represent the University of South Carolina, the Darla Moore School of Business, Columbia College, the SC Wildlife Federation, Dreher High School and the NAACP Youth Council.
The public and media are invited to attend.
