March 19, 2026

City of Georgetown announced today that Police Chief William Pierce plans to retire effective June 12, 2026. Chief Pierce concludes a distinguished 34-year career in public service, including service in both the Police and Sheriff’s departments. He has served as Chief of Police for the City of Georgetown since 2022.

In a letter submitted to City Administrator Scott Whittier, Chief Pierce expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve the City of Georgetown, describing his time
working alongside its dedicated men and women as one of the greatest privileges of his professional career. He also conveyed gratitude for the opportunity to lead such an
outstanding group of public servants and to collaborate with City leadership in service to the community.

“Together, we have navigated challenges, strengthened the department, and worked to ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens of Georgetown,” Pierce said. “I am proud of the progress we have made and confident the department will continue moving forward in a positive direction.”

City Administrator Scott Whittier said the City has been fortunate to benefit from Chief Pierce’s knowledge and experience over the past several years. He highlighted the Chief’s leadership in recruiting officers—resulting in a much-needed increase in staffing—as well as advancements in technology and equipment, and his strong advocacy for continued law enforcement training. “His leadership and outstanding dedication as Chief will be missed,” Whittier added.

Chief Pierce will continue to fulfill his duties through his retirement date and remains fully committed to assisting in any way necessary to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.
