City of Laurens Council Meeting Recap – July 15, 2025
July 16, 2025The City of Laurens Council met on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, with Mayor Nathan Senn opening the meeting by offering praise for the city’s successful Freedom Fest celebration earlier this month.
“I can’t tell you how many times I have heard that we have gained new residents after they attended the event and fell in love with our town,” said Mayor Senn. “I want to thank everyone who helped make this event possible.”
In addition to celebrating the festival’s positive impact, Mayor Senn also addressed the need to continue exploring opportunities for economic development. He noted discussions surrounding a hotel feasibility study and encouraged council members and residents to share any information they may have on potential interest from hotel developers.
Council also noted that members will be attending the South Carolina Municipal Association’s Annual Meeting later this week at the Hilton Beachfront Resort and Spa, where they will have the opportunity to participate in educational sessions and connect with other municipal leaders from across the state.
During the meeting, Sonny Ledda, director of Laurens County Emergency Management Services, spoke briefly to council and residents to remind them of the ongoing risks during hurricane season.
“This is now the second month of hurricane season, and it’s important that everyone remain alert and prepared,” Ledda said in remarks to council. In a follow-up with The Buzz, Ledda emphasized, “After last year and the destruction we saw from Hurricane Helene, this should be something everyone takes seriously. We can no longer say that this area of the Upstate does not feel the impact of hurricanes.”
Ledda encouraged residents to ensure their emergency kits are ready and to stay informed through trusted weather sources.
The next meeting of Laurens City Council is scheduled for August.
